Aybige Kerim

In these days, Kerim and I would celebrate our 20th year together, but he couldn’t make it. He passed away on April and left behind all good memories of 20 years full of love (and more years before that as friends). After such a big and unexpected loss, all one can feel is emptiness, heartbreaking pain, anger…

We were very lucky because we spent half of our lives together, we shared everything, we have been best friends, we travelled around the world, we tried to do not delay anything we want to do, we enjoyed each day of our lives with love during 20 years.

Kerim was a good man with a big heart, a good photographer, most important and loved person in my life, my best friend. Nothing can fill his place. I miss him. I’m gonna miss him a lot.

Şanslıydık çünkü ömrümüzün yarısını birlikte geçirdik, her şeyi paylaştık, birbirimizin en iyi dostu olduk, dünyayı dolaştık, yapmak istediğimiz şeyleri elimizden geldiğince ertelememeye çalıştık, birlikte geçirdiğimiz sevgi dolu 20 yılı dolu dolu yaşadık, hayatımızın tadını çıkardık.

Kerim Okten by Aybige Mert

World Press Photo 2014 Jury 01

Today I’m (Aybige) writing the post because I’m proud of Kerim one more time. During his twenty years carrier he always succeed on the assignments he covered. It’s impossible to write here all of them but with few exemples; one of the photos he took during 2011 London riots, was one of the symbol photos of the riots printed in world’s most big newspaper’s covers, also cover photo in all editions worldwide of Time magazine same week. Another photo he took during Istanbul Gezi Park Resistance this summer became another  significative photo and published as cover photo in world’s 25 big newspapers in one day. Do you remember the photoreporters running faster then Usain Bolt after the finish line on 2012 London Olympic Games and taking his photo? Yes, he was one of them.

Today, one of the most prestigious press photo organisations of the world, World Press Photo announced next year’s contest’s jury members and Kerim Okten is the Sports Jury Chair and Final Jury Member of 2014 World Press Photo Contest!

Congratulations Kerim! I’m proud of you, again!

British Moto GP 2013 Silverstone

British Moto GP 2013 Silverstone

When we were in Turkey, we were riding in every possible occasion but since we came to London we are away from our bikes and our riding joy and we miss to be on the way again. Normally we are not very big fans of racing bikes or watching the races from tv but we definitely enjoy to watch the Moto GP on the track.

Last four days we were in Silverstone for British Grand Prix 2013 and we came back home with lots of beautiful photos and big smiles in our faces. We watched with big pleasure big boys leaning in the curves just in front of us, heard the amazing voice of the engines during three days.

Three Spanish riders Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa crossed the checkered flag first, second and third but we supported as always our number 46, Valentino “The Doctor” Rossi. Our Italian boy finished fourth the race but still number one in our hearths.
